Description & Learning objectives

Kinship care is the care given to a child whose parents are unable to provide the care and support for a child, and this responsibility is taken on by a family member such as a grandparent, aunt, uncle, sibling, or other connected adults to the child such as godparents or close friends of the family.

This course will cover what kinship care is – including who kinship carers usually are and why it is necessary – and the benefits of kinship care. The course will also look at kinship care concerning education and the issues that both children and carers might face.

The learning objectives for this course are as follows:

  • To know what kinship care is
  • To know the benefits of kinship care
  • To understand kinship care and education
  • To know the key issues affecting children growing up in kinship care
  • To understand the issues that kinship carers may face

It is also tailored to where you live in the UK, adhering to each country’s own individual regulators - namely: Ofsted, The Care Inspectorate (Wales), The Care Inspectorate (Scotland), and The Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority (Northern Ireland).
