Description & Learning objectives

This course is a broad theoretical guide for practitioners. It adopts a reflective and reflexive practice that enables them to explore and critically analyse their theoretical and practical knowledge, experience and skillset around their understanding of mental health.

It aims to empower practitioners so they can reflect on and evaluate their own caring practices and duty of care, when promoting child mental health. Throughout this course, we will refer to children (child) and young people (person) as CYP. We will also refer to all key workers and carers of children and young people in care, as practitioners.

The learning outcomes for this course are as follows:

  • To develop a foundational understanding of the terminologies and definitions surrounding mental health
  • To explore varying common disorders and their physiology
  • To reflect on (and examine) risk factor that may impact mental health
  • To reflect on (and identify) resilience factors that may promote mental health
  • To evaluate your professional caring practices in line with your legal and moral responsibilities and legal frameworks, when supporting and promoting mental health

This course is CPD accredited and is specifically for anyone working within Children Services. It is also tailored to where you live in the UK, adhering to each country’s own individual regulators - namely: Ofsted, The Care Inspectorate (Wales), The Care Inspectorate (Scotland), and The Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority (Northern Ireland).
